UK Gaines Center for the Humanities presents An Evening with Ebony G. Patterson | October 23, 2025 | Lexington, KY | Singletary Center for the Arts

The UK Gaines Center is thrilled to welcome former UK faculty and MacArthur Grant awardee, Ebony Patterson back to campus on October 23, 2025. Ebony is a Jamaican-born, multi-media artist. She has had her work displayed all over the world including a 2019 solo exhibit at the Speed Art museum and a 2022 installation for the NYC Botanical Gardens. She has pieces in the permanent collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), The National Gallery of Jamica (Trinidad), and the Baltimore Museum of Art, among others. Her multimedia work “addresses visibility and invisibility, through explorations of class, race, gender, youth culture, pageantry and acts of violence in the context of ‘postcolonial’ spaces. With the strong sensibility of a painter, Patterson works across multiple media – including tapestry, photography, video, sculpture, drawing and installation – united by her consistent visual language and intention. Each work is intricately embellished and densely layered, in order to draw the viewer closer and to question how we engage in the act of looking.”

Ebony will be in conversation with the Director of the UK Art Museum, Stuart Horodner in the Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall.
